On Sunday Switzerland international Shaqiri appeared close to joining Stoke City for a season, but the 23-year-old is believed to be unconvinced by the idea.

The attacking midfielder only joined the Nerazzurri in January, but is believed to be deemed surplus to requirements by Coach Roberto Mancini after failing to impress in his short spell.
