The Stregoni were 20 points clear at the top of Serie B and heading for promotion to the top tier of Italian football when the season was interrupted due to the current global crisis.

Viola has revealed that the Benevento from 2019-20 have completely changed from the side that last won promotion to Serie A but didn’t expect them to cruise through the League in this manner.

“We are doing something unique,” he told Gianluca Di Marzio on social media. “This is a different team than it was two years ago.

“We were built to win the championship. Nobody would have expected this path, but I must say something has taken place in us.

“We always want to win. We always think about the next game and we are never satisfied. Inzaghi has transmitted all his desire and hunger to us.”

Viola has underlined the wish to finish what they have started this season and pointed out that his team and the fans deserve to play in Serie A.

“We want to finish the season, but health and safety is obviously the first priority,” he added. “Our target is to play in Serie A. This club, this team and its fans deserve it.”
