Bologna-Chievo brought an end to the latest round of Serie A action. Dave Taylor highlights his best XI.

Mariano Andujar [Catania]

Napoli would have quadrupled the score if not for his agility. Could do nothing about the goals, but frustrated Gonzalo Higuain on several occasions while twice foiling Marek Hamsik. Alert.

Stefan Savic [Fiorentina” data-scaytid=”9″>Fiorentina]

Led the line well and kept Mario Balotelli and anyone else who dared venture into his zone of operations completely stifled. Even found time to go up field and set up attacks. Dedicated.

Alessandro Lucarelli [Parma]

The defensive director put and kept everyone in their place – even the prodigious Carlos Tevez and the prodigal Sebastian Giovinco. He stopped Juve’s attacks dead with several crucial tackles and his 100 per cent victory in aerial battles. Secure.

Domenico Maietta [Verona]

An exceptional showing from the 31-year-old whose experience contributed to the overall security of the Verona defence. Had the normally vivacious Marco Sau under his thumb and made a wonderfully crucial tackle to charge down his goal-ward bound half-volley. Outstanding.

Jose Callejon [Napoli]

Crosses, corners, defending, dribbling, there wasn’t much Hey Jose didn’t do. Has integrated himself into the team and the hearts of the fans and his awesome, curling left-footer for the opener was a perfect example of his skills. Splendid.

Marek Hamsik [Napoli]

Marekiaro is back on form with all the commitment, accuracy and great goals he is known for. Following some great work by Lorenzo Insigne he thundered home an unstoppable left footer and also just missed with a long-distance effort. Assured.

Borja Valero [Fiorentina]

The Spaniard was all over the pitch, setting up attacks, getting on the end of them and also defending at times. He capped a top performance when he snapped on to a parried ball and tapped home from close range. Eye-catching.

Esteban Cambiasso [Inter]

At the heart of everything good about Inter including repelling boarders, starting the offensive play and bossing the midfield. Always alert to the opposition’s weaknesses and it was his corner that set up Andrea Ranocchia’s superb volleyed goal. Dominating.

Miralem Pjanic [Roma]

With over a hundred touches and a pass accuracy of 91 per cent, he was the liveliest player on the pitch. Always looking to cause problems, it was his assist that set up Kevin Strootman’s opening goal.

Luca Toni [Verona]

The veteran was the archetypal big man striker, scoring a header from a corner in a crowded box. Using his experience and strength he held on to the ball, brought others into play and scored again but judged offside. Distinguished.

Rodrigo Palacio [Inter]

Opened up the scoring with an accurate header and was always a problem for the normally solid Udinese” data-scaytid=”36″>Udinese defence. Late on his snake tongue speed saw him beat the offside trap to set up the third goal. Predatory.

Special mentions: Fabio Quagliarella [Juventus” data-scaytid=”41″>Juventus], Valon Behrami [Napoli], Fredy Guarin [Inter], Lorenzo Insigne [Napoli], Alessio Cerci [Torino], Kevin Strootman [Roma], Domenico Berardi [Sassuolo” data-scaytid=”52″>Sassuolo].
