The Viola were in crisis after dismal performances in Serie A and the Conference League, so confidence was low, but Ikone sprinted forward and cut inside to score the opener.
Montipò kept Verona in it with a series of tough saves, above all on Biraghi’s penalty and the Lucas Martinez-Quarta header.
Nico Gonzalez came off the bench late on to seal it from Rolando Mandragora’s assist.
