Angel Di Maria has issued an apology to Juventus fans, teammates and club after his red card against Monza, which will likely mean he’ll miss Milan too. ‘It is purely my fault that we lost.’

The Bianconeri went down to 10 men after 40 minutes when Di Maria was held by Armando Izzo and reacted angrily, smashing an elbow into the defender’s ribs.

It was a very obvious reaction foul that could not avoid being punished by a straight red card.

Because this was for violent conduct, Di Maria is almost certain to receive more than just a one-match ban, so is expected to be suspended for both the Serie A games against Bologna and Milan.

“I wish to apologise to everyone for that inappropriate reaction I had on the pitch,” wrote the Argentina international on Instagram.

“Having left the team a man down in such a difficult moment of the season made us lose the game. It is purely my fault that we lost.

“I am so very sorry. I am a professional, but also a human being who makes mistakes and can recognise them.”

  1. His only fault was turning down Barca for the smallest club of his career. Like Dusan he is frustrated at seeing Hiroshima Max day in day out. Less than a year to go and the nightmare like Utd will be over.

  2. Milik being subbed off when they lost to Benfica speaks volumes. He couldn’t believe it and it tells me Allegri has the lost the trust of the locker room.
