Frosinone again started strong, but this time were able to hang on for all three points in a surprise victory over Atalanta.
La Dea began their campaign with a victory, but were still missing injured El Bilal Toure, Hans Hateboer and Jose Luis Palomino. The Canarini lost goalkeeper Stefano Turati to suspension after he was caught on camera using a blasphemous phrase, which in the Italian language is the worst kind of swearing. They threw Walid Cheddira and Enzo Barrenechea straight into the starting XI after loans from Napoli and Juventus respectively.
Just like last week against Napoli, Frosinone took an early lead through Abdou Harroui, who pounced on a misplaced Ademola Lookman midfield pass and cut inside past Berat Djimsiti to fire into the far bottom corner.
Duvan Zapata and especially Davide Zappacosta blasted off target from promising positions, both set up by Teun Koopmeiners.
However, Frosinone doubled their advantage when a corner was flicked on, bobbled around in the box and Ilario Monterisi flicked it in from six yards off the outside of the boot.
Moments later Monterisi was decisive at the other end with a crucial block on Zappacosta from seven yards.
Atalanta threw on Charles De Ketelaere, but it was veteran Duvan Zapata who got them back into it by holding off the otherwise excellent Monterisi to spin and fire into the near bottom corner from 12 yards.
De Ketelaere and Gianluca Scamacca combined to send Giorgio Scalvini clear, but he poked the finish straight at goalkeeper Michele Cerofolini.
The shot-stopper was also decisive when parrying the De Ketelaere strike at the near bottom corner, while Scamacca’s header from a corner skimmed the crossbar.
Frosinone 2-1 Atalanta
Harroui 5 (F), Monterisi 24 (F), Duvan Zapata 56 (A)
