Cremonese see out the campaign and say farewell to Serie A with a rare victory over Salernitana thanks to a Cristiano Buonaiuto penalty and Frank Tsadjout curler.
The hosts said goodbye to Serie A after a troubled campaign, with Cyril Dessers, Vlad Chiriches and Marco Benassi injured. Salernitana midfielder Tonny Vilhena was suspended, with Federico Fazio, Boulaye Dia, Matteo Lovato, Diego Valencia and Vincenzo Fiorillo sidelined.
Vlad Chiriches went off injured after just 12 minutes for Cremonese, swiftly followed onto the treatment table by Pablo Galdames.
Nonetheless, the hosts took the lead when a penalty was awarded using a VAR on-field review for the clumsy Bohinen challenge on Cristian Buonaiuto, who converted it himself for his first Serie A goal of the season.
Antonio Candreva’s deflected strike was fingertipped out from under the bar, while Lassana Coulibaly skimmed the woodwork by pouncing on a loose ball.
Play was halted for several minutes at the dawn of the second half due to fireworks being thrown onto the pitch. Krzysztof Piatek should’ve equalised, but his first touch was poor on the Pasquale Mazzocchi cross from the by-line, resulting in a meek prod into the arms of Sarr.
Emanuele Valeri’s free kick whistled wide, but Frank Tsadjout sealed it with a perfect left-foot curler into the far top corner from the edge of the area.
Salernitana were awarded a penalty in stoppages, but it was revoked after a VAR on-field review, as Junior Sambia seemed to run into Emanuel Aiwu.
Candreva also had the ball in the net, but only after wandering offside.
