Cagliari came from behind to beat Bologna 2-1, securing an important three points in the fight to avoid relegation.

The Rossoblu came into this game needing a win, as they currently sit 18th in the Serie A table. Bologna, on the other hand, are in the top half of the table and were looking to close the gap with the 8th place Lazio.

The Sardinian side started the game well, with Joao Pedro and Raoul Bellanova having some early but relatively unthreatening chances. The game swung Bologna’s way after this, but their attempts were also ultimately weak.

The two teams went into the half time break fairly even, with both having some decent chances. Cagliari had 52% possession to Bologna’s 48%, and they had seven shots to the Emilian side’s four.

Things heated up in the second half and both sides had a few attempts, with Riccardo Orsolini finally finding a breakthrough in the 55th minute, putting Bologna ahead.

Cagliari responded well, however, and pushed for an equaliser. Their work was rewarded in the 73rd minute, when Leonardo Pavoletti found the back of the net in the 73rd minute.

Gaston Pereiro secured a late winner in the 93rd minute following a scrappy attacking move, sending the home fans wild.

The Sardinian side held on to secure all three points in front of their home fans, only their third win of the season. It was a disappointing result for Sinisa Mihajlovic’s Bologna, who now need to re-group ahead of their next match against Napoli.
