Victor Osimhen’s brace probably secured his Capocannoniere status, but was not enough for Napoli, as Bologna clawed back a 2-2 draw.

The Partenopei were still hoping to beat Maurizio Sarri’s club record of 91 points, but Eljif Elmas was suspended with Matteo Politano, Hirving Lozano and Mario Rui injured. The hosts wanted eighth place for European potential, with Riccardo Orsolini sitting out a ban, Roberto Soriano and Adama Soumaoro on the treatment table.

Lukasz Skorupski literally gifted the opener to Napoli, as he was distracted by a high Piotr Zielinski press and passed it straight to Victor Osimhen, who could simply deposit into an empty net for his 24th Serie A goal of the season.

Andre Frank Zambo Anguissa stung Skorupski’s gloves from distance and Musa Barrow drilled across the face of goal, while Osimhen sprung the offside trap to force a reaction save from Skorupski and Nico Dominguez fired inches wide from the edge of the area.

Marko Arnautovic prodded a couple of attempts wide from promising positions and Michel Aebischer couldn’t keep his header on target from a Barrow cross.

Skorupski made a desperate save on Osimhen’s header from a corner, but was beaten moments later when Bartosz Bereszynski won it back in midfield and threaded through for the Nigerian to drill between the goalkeeper’s legs.

He almost got a hat-trick moments later, the angled drive flashing across the face of goal to skim the far post, while Alessio Zerbin also tested Skorupski.

Kvicha Kvaratskhelia skimmed the upright after a cheeky nutmeg, but Bologna pulled one back when Pierluigi Gollini only got a hand to the Nicola Sansone scorcher, allowing Lewis Ferguson to meet the rebound.

Sansone turned over from a tricky angle and Anguissa’s deflection sent the Cambiaso attempt inches wide. Bologna were pushing hard and got their equaliser when Lorenzo De Silvestri rose to nod in Sansone’s corner kick.

The hosts were not satisfied with a point and kept pushing, Cambiaso testing Gollini on the counter-attack and Joshua Zirkzee’s finish deflected off Juan Jesus.

Sansone had the ball in the net during stoppages, but Bereszynski had stopped the run to catch him offside.
