The President of the Lega Serie A called Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival to Juventus “historic for all of Italian sport,” while La Liga hope it won’t affect their revenue.

The deal was confirmed this evening at a cost of €100m, plus €12m in formation fees to his previous clubs Sporting CP and Manchester United.

“Cristiano Ronaldo represents an historic move not just for Juve and the city of Turin, but also for Italian sport,” said Lega Serie A President Gaetano Micchichè.

“Cristiano Ronaldo represents an historic move not just for Juve and the city of Turin, but also for Italian sport,” said Lega Serie A President Gaetano Micchichè.

“The Italian football system will benefit all together, not just in terms of spectacle and competition, but also with regards to the creation of value in this sector.

“I expect this operation to also represent a boost for tourism around big sporting events in this country.”

This represents the biggest ever transfer in Serie A, surpassing the €94m Juventus paid to Napoli for Gonzalo Higuain in 2016.

La Liga had both recent Ballon d’Or winners, but now only Lionel Messi remains for Barcelona.

“If this had been five years ago, I’d have been worried to a level of about 9 out of 10,” confessed La Liga President Javier Tebas to newspaper AS.

“Today, I’d say the worry is 4 out of 10. We have worked over the last few years to ensure our League is above players and clubs, vry much in the style of the Premier League.

“We renewed many television contracts in recent months and nobody demanded that Cristiano Ronaldo or Messi had to play in La Liga to make them valid.”
