The Lega Serie A has granted Fiorentina an exemption to the new captain’s armband rule, so German Pezzella can wear the Davide Astori tribute.
For this season the league introduced a standardised armband for all club captains, but the likes of Daniele De Rossi and Papu Gomez, of Roma and Atalanta respectively, ignored the ruling and continued to wear personalised armbands.
That prompted a statement from the Lega declaring that any club flouting the rule would be subject to punishment from Week 4 onward.

That was a particularly emotive issue for Fiorentina, whose captain has been wearing a special armband in tribute to former captain Astori, who died earlier this year.
However, today’s general assembly has yielded a resolution, with Fiorentina will be granted an exemption.
That means Pezzella can continue to wear the armband in tribute to Astori.
