Roma are having a media blackout, but their former President Rosella Sensi let loose on the refereeing in the 4-3 defeat to Sassuolo. ‘You never get accustomed to injustice.’

The Giallorossi had imposed the press silence on Friday after Jose Mourinho’s two-match touchline ban was confirmed on appeal for his row with fourth official Marco Serra.

It was already a tense atmosphere at the Stadio Olimpico and escalated further after this defeat, which saw Marash Kumbulla sent off and a penalty awarded for his kick out at Domenico Berardi.

Even down to 10 men for half the match, they still only capitulated 4-3 in a thriller.

“You never get accustomed to injustice,” wrote Sensi on Instagram.

“After the ban for Mourinho, now comes a one-way refereeing performance in a decisive match for the Champions League zone, that in any case the team still should’ve played much better.

“After all, the destiny of Roma, as my father always said, is having to suffer twice as much as the others in order to win. Now Mourinho is experiencing that for himself.

“And that handcuffs gesture I fear will not have the same results as he achieved in 2010.”

Sensi was referring to Mourinho’s ‘handcuffs’ gesture that he made in the 2009-10 season while in charge of Inter.

That was during a game with Sampdoria where two Nerazzurri players were sent off.

He repeated it on Instagram this week after the two-match ban was confirmed.

“I hope that Roma will one day be given the consideration they deserve, just like every other club. Because to err is human, to persevere is diabolical – and round here there’s been a lot of perseverance.”

The stage is set for a tense Derby della Capitale against Lazio next week.
