Clarence Seedorf and Patrice Evra struggled to compare Rafael Leao and Kylian Mbappe after Milan’s Champions League loss to Paris Saint-Germain, underlining why the latter is on another level.

The Rossoneri were thoroughly outclassed in their European encounter in Paris, failing in a miserable 3-0 loss after goals from Mbappe, Randal Kolo Muani and Lee Kang-in, a result that leaves them bottom of Group F after three games.

Before the match, many drew comparisons between Milan star Leao and PSG centrepiece Mbappe, but the latter had a far greater impact on proceedings at the Parc des Princes, leading to much criticism for the former.

Speaking on Amazon Prime Video, Seedorf was first asked about the comparisons between Leao and Mbappe.

“There is no comparison with Mbappé at the moment. The continuity with which the Frenchman has been doing things for years is there for all to see, while Leao has done good things but his work in certain situations lacks danger.”

Evra chimed in, looking to silence the comparisons.

“It’s impossible to compare Leao and Mbappe, are we joking? On one side there is a killer, on the other side a player who is good but has fun…fun is not enough to win. But as I said, I’m sorry because I don’t want to criticise a player like Leao, because people take football badly.”

Seedorf then underlined what Leao needs to do to reach that level.

“It’s constructive. We cannot always say that he is good, that he made a good play, this player can and must do much more, he can determine the matches.

“He must improve in his movements without the ball. He has put an important number on his shoulders and the criticism will come, but it’s fair because he also knows he can do more.”

Whilst Leao’s future is in no doubt at Milan following his recent contract renewal, Mbappe may finally leave PSG for Real Madrid next summer.
