Former Bayern Munich and Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger apologised to Italy after a tweet published last night before the match against North Macedonia.

It wasn’t meant to be an offensive message from the ex-Germany star. On the contrary, Schweini had shown his support for Roberto Mancini’s boys wishing them good luck minutes before the kick-off of last night’s match in Palermo.

However, it ended in a very unexpected way for everyone, including Schweinsteiger who had to take to social media again to apologise to Italy.

“Okay, seems like I didn’t bring too much luck yesterday, sorry Italy,” he wrote.

“North Macedonia has also beat Germany last year… a tough team. Portugal should be warned.”

Italy will now play one of the most useless games ever against Turkey next week. It counts as the third-place play-off, but neither country will be happy to play it, knowing that they will be watching the World Cup from their sofas at the end of the year.

Schweinsteiger, 37, is a Germany World Cup winner and lifted both the Champions League and the Europa League during his playing career. He retired in 2019 after a three-year spell at Chicago Fire.

  1. Portugal is going to destroy Macedonia. They won’t even get a shot attempt. My prediction is….If Portugal stops making Rinaldo the center of the team….THEY WILL WIN THE CUP. Does anyone remember the EURO CUP in France.

  2. Yea I remember the Euro in France. Game completely dominated by the French and a substitute scores on the first shot of the second half /OT. What are you remembering? Oh yea, Turkey doesn’t blow penalty shot and it’s a completely different game. I bet if Portugal makes the WC the don’t get out the group stage .
