Following their 3-0 win over Cagliari on Sunday, the Rossoneri moved back into fourth place in the Serie A table, although they sit just one point above the chasing pack.

Scaroni has insisted that qualifying for Europe's premier competition will boost Milan's hopes of success on and off the pitch, but has seemingly tried to relieve some of the pressure on Coach Gennaro Gattuso and the players.

"Only the Champions League can allow Milan to achieve economic results that, consequently, lead to sporting results," he told reporters.

"In the medium term, Milan must stay there. I wouldn't make it a drama [if they failed to qualify], but it would certainly be a nice goal to achieve, otherwise it will be for next year. We always have medium-term targets."

Meanwhile, the Milan President also spoke of his belief that they are the best supported Italian club around the world, as he insists that it's built on Champions League glory rather than domestic success.

"Milan is by far the Italian club with the most fans around the world," he added. "The number of fans is proportionate to the Champions League victories a club has, it has nothing to do with the Scudetto.

"We haven't participated in it for a few years and so that's our aim. We have two mountains to climb, that of sporting results, which must come, and we must also prioritise merchandising and using social media to reach our 403 million fans worldwide.

"The fundamental ingredient is the stadium, and I've dedicated myself to that. Milan must have a new stadium in order to adapt to the times that we live in."
