Former Parma Coach Nevio Scala reveals he was in negotiations with Roma to replace Claudio Ranieri several months ago.

“In October, when part of the squad was already failing to follow the directives of their Coach Ranieri, there was contact and I was close to making a return to work,” Scala told Radio 24.

“I have always had a good rapport with Roma and their President, so the idea of returning to the playing field has been bouncing around my head of late.”

The Giallorossi opted for Vincenzo Montella after Ranieri tended his resignation, taking him from the youth academy staff.

“My move to Roma did not happen for a number of different situations and one of those was to go for a cheaper option that was already on the club payroll,” continued Scala.

“I am not desperately seeking a new job, but football is my life and I constantly watch the matches on television and in the stadium. I cannot hide the fact I would still like to get back into the game.”
