Parma President Nevio Scala said fans have “reacted brilliantly to a sad situation” after demotion to Serie D.

The club was declared bankrupt over the summer and had to begin again from the lowest level of professional football.

“We started the season well, albeit on a disastrous pitch, but it’s an important sign that 1,000 fans travelled to Arzignano for the first game,” Scala told Itasportpress.

The Ducali won 1-0 away to Arzignanochiampo thanks to a Riccardo Musetti penalty.

“It was an emotional occasion, but I was also tense, as I wanted the team to start with a good result.

“Parma reacted brilliantly to a sad situation with 9,000 season tickets sold. The Gialloblu fans appreciated the project.

“It’s not mandatory to win the League, but we will do our all to make these fans happy.”
