Sassuolo director general Giovanni Carnevali ‘wants to keep Sime Vrsaljko’ despite reported interest from Barcelona and Juventus.

The Spanish giants’ sporting director Ariedo Braida was spotted at the Mapei Stadium on Sunday and was believed to be monitoring the Croatian full-back and striker Domenico Berardi.

Reigning Italian champions Juve are also believed to be tracking the 23-year-old.

However, Carnevali is determined to keep hold of the club’s stars, with the team flying high in Serie A after eight rounds.

“We managed to keep Berardi and we had requests for Vrsaljko but we wanted to keep him,” he said to Sky Sport.

“We wanted to do it with the best pieces of the team and it was a pre-set target, because he’s part of our project.

“Cesena’s Stefano Sensi? I think the most important thing is to monitor the best young players.

“Sensi’s good and has a way to go, he can be one of the young Italian players on which we base our research.

"We have a great relationship with Cesena and also with (sporting director) Rino Foschi.

“I think here at Sassuolo we have the right circumstances to help the youngsters develop.

“(Coach Eusebio) Di Francesco makes players grow and improve , young players with a desire to work want to come here.

“We are doing well here and the most important thing is Di Francesco.

“Vrsaljko? Juventus haven’t asked for him but he could be coveted by many teams.”
