Sassuolo’s CEO insists his club will not be pushovers when they face Inter on Saturday and that they will not sell Matteo Politano ‘easily’.

Sassuolo have nothing to play for after securing their Serie A status last weekend, while Inter need the win to go into their final game against Lazio still in with a chance of qualifying for the Champions League.

“Like in all our games, we’ll face our opponents with the intention of getting the best result, especially because we want to end the season in the best way possible,” Giovanni Carnevali told Tuttosport.

“It’s true, we’ve lost to them, sometimes badly, but we’ve beaten them on the last two occasions.

“Inter have recovered [since the 1-0 in December]. Qualifying for the Champions League is neither obvious nor simple, but I think they’ve laid the groundwork for doing great things in the future.

“Standing off Inter? I smile, but I don’t give much weight to this bluster. It takes great professionalism and we don’t lack any. We’ll give our maximum.”

Carnevali was then asked about the speculation surrounding Politano, who remains a Neroverdi player, despite the winger being linked with some of Italy’s top clubs.

“Inter and Milan on Politano? I don’t know, but the will of the club remains to build a Sassuolo that aspire to do better next season,” he continued.

“We’re a club that don’t sell their best players easily, but all three of us have to reach an agreement: us, the buyer and player.

“Myself? My contract is expiring, as well as that of many others at the club. I’ll speak at the end of the season, but beyond the possible opportunities, before leaving Sassuolo and a person like Squinzi, we have a lot of thinking to do.”
