Sassuolo general manager Giovanni Carnevali admits keeping Eusebio Di Francesco “will be difficult” but hopes Domenico Berardi becomes a ‘bandiera’.

Di Francesco appears certain to become Roma’s next Coach, while Berardi remains a Sassuolo player, despite constant speculation since his breakout 2014-15 campaign.

“The situation is simple. With Di Francesco, we have an exceptional relationship with him and we’d like to keep him,” Carnevali told Sky Sport Itaia.

“On the other hand, we’d be proud if he went to a big club. In case there are offers, we’ll talk to him.

“We’ve yet to meet with Roma, but things have to be settled shortly.

“There are so many young Coaches who might interest us, but first we have to resolve the issue of Di Francesco.

“It’ll be difficult to keep him, but we’d like to.”

On Berardi, Carnevali added to Premium Sport: “The Berardi talk is very simple: he’s wanted by big clubs, but there’s nothing official, it all needs to be evaluated.

“It’s also necessary to understand the lad’s will and what we want to do with him.

“When he rejected Juve, we were happy but surprised.

“We hope we can stay this summer as well. We think he can be our ‘bandiera’, but we’ll still evaluate things, in case he wants to change clubs.

“Pellegrini? We both did a deal. We paid 1.5 for him and Roma can get him back for 10m, but he could be worth much more than that.

“I think we got the better part of the deal.”
