Sassuolo confirm they are “down to the details” with Atletico Madrid for Sime Vrsaljko, while Domenico Berardi “didn’t reject Juventus.”

Croatia international right-back Vrsaljko had been close to Napoli, but Diego Simeone appears to have won that race.

“We are down to the details to reach a figure that matches our demands,” Sassuolo director of sport Giovanni Carnevali told Sky Sport Italia.

“In any case, the move was not in doubt, so we’re just whittling down the final details and it’s a matter of days. We’ll meet the Spanish directors at the start of next week.”

Sassuolo are keeping hold of Berardi for at least one more season.

“Domenico never rejected Juventus. He just cares for Sassuolo and this was a decision shared by us, Juventus and the player.

“We own him and before letting him go, we’ll have to think long and hard. We are in the Europa League preliminary round and want him to face this busy campaign with us.”

Juve still retain an option to buy Berardi for €25m, but they could work with Sassuolo again to sign Pescara hitman Gianluca Lapadula.

“It’s a complicated issue, as Lapadula is tracked by many clubs. We’d have to evaluate the financial situation around him and for now we’ll see what happens.

“A new synergy with Juventus is possible, but we are capable of closing these operations by ourselves too.”
