Sassuolo captain Domenico Berardi suffered a relapse of that muscular injury on his comeback, but the good news is that there are no new lesions.

The Italy international had been ruled out by a torn muscle in his thigh on August 30 and made his return as a substitute in the 2-1 defeat to Atalanta at the weekend.

That only lasted 23 minutes, during which he thumped the woodwork with a ferocious strike, as he limped off again with a relapse of that muscular injury.

Sassuolo have now released a statement confirming that tests have shown no new lesions, so it seems as if Berardi was able to stop in time before doing any further damage.

It is safe to say his return to the field will now be treated with more hesitation and care to avoid any other relapses.

Despite making only six appearances this season between Serie A and the Coppa Italia, Berardi still contributed two goals.
