Sassuolo look set to win the race for Italy Under-21 international central defender Marco Varnier.
The 19-year-old centre-back came up through the Cittadella youth academy and is currently playing for the first team in Serie B.
He has scored two goals with two assists in 25 Serie B appearances this season.
According to Gazzamercato, Sassuolo are the hot favourites to secure his signature in the summer, having already been close to a January swoop.
There has also been interest from the likes of Genoa, Bologna and Udinese.
