A number of clubs across Europe are keen to sign Wilfried Gnonto, who shot to prominence with his impressive display for the Azzurri against Germany yesterday.

The 18-year-old Italian forward joined Swiss side FC Zurich in the summer of 2020 after his contract expired with Inter. The teenager took the risk to move abroad in a bid to find regular playing time, something he was quickly rewarded with. This campaign, Gnonto played a key role in Zurich’s title winning run, netting eight goals along the way.

As reported by Gianluca Di Marzio, Freiburg and Hoffenheim are both keen to pick up Gnonto this summer and the latter hold a slight edge, as they’ll be coached by current Zurich boss André Breitenreiter next season.

In Belgium, Antwerp are interested in the Italian teenager and they’ve made some inquiries. Finally, Sassuolo have also made an approach, looking to add to their young and talented roster.

Nothing concrete has taken place yet, but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Gnonto impressing in one of Europe’s top leagues next season.

  1. Great news for him and the national team as he will only get better. But don’t sign for an Italian club , at your age you’ll only warm the bench.

  2. It’s sad to read such racist comments.
Gnonto is Italian like Tagliafico is Argentinean (even he has an Italian name)
