Maurizio Sarri was just as disheartened as many fans when both Napoli and Juventus wore away kits at the San Paolo. “I thought I’d die first.”

The Bianconeri – wearing bright yellow on the night – won the match last night with a lone goal from Gonzalo Higuain.

The Azzurri – who on this occasion were dressed all in black – suffered their first Serie A defeat in nine months.

“I am very sad for two reasons today, which is for the Napoli fans, and one for me, because I thought I’d die before I saw a Napoli v Juventus with grey jerseys against yellow,” Napoli Coach Sarri told Mediaset Premium.

“It hurt, as it hurt I imagine for those who grew up with Panini stickers and with attachment to club colours. It made me profoundly sad.”

The decision to honour the various sponsors with both sides wearing away kits prompted confusion and controversy in the biggest game of the season so far.
