Multiple sources in Italy claim Lazio boss Maurizio Sarri is not entirely convinced about signing Hugo Lloris from Tottenham as the France World Cup winner would put pressure on Ivan Provedel.

The Biancocelesti are confident of signing Lloris from Tottenham and are close to reaching an agreement with the North Londoners and the player’s entourage.

According to Sky Sport Italia, La Repubblica and Thursday’s printed edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (page 18), President Claudio Lotito independently took the decision to sign Lloris, but Sarri is not convinced about his decision.

The Tuscan tactician, in fact, fears an experienced keeper like Lloris will put pressure on Provedel who had a fantastic season at the Stadio Olimpico in 2022-23.

The 29-year-old kept 21 clean sheets in Serie A, more than any other goalkeeper and Sarri still sees him as the regular starter for 2023-24.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Lotito is also tempted to sign Leonardo Bonucci from Juventus, but yet again, Sarri does not see the Italian centre-back as a priority and prefers keeping four centre-backs in the new campaign.

  1. I’m with Sarri if this report is true. Knowing the media I’m skeptical so either Lloris is ok with being nr2 or he is not signing with Lazio.
