Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri insists “it’s ridiculous to think about reducing the number of foreigners” in Serie A.
Talk of limiting the number of non-Italians has returned after the Azzurri’s failure to qualify for the World Cup, but Sarri made it clear restructuring the calendar would help the national team more.
“Going through isn’t a given for us,” the Coach said at a Press conference for Napoli’s Champions League clash with Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday.

“Going through isn’t a given for us,” the Coach said at a Press conference for Napoli’s Champions League clash with Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday.
“We’re in a difficult situation to qualify, but there’s a small gap that we can see and we must try to pry it open and enter it.
“It’s not time to make calculations but play with determination, heart and soul because we can’t risk leaving the Champions League without giving up everything.
“We ran a lot against Milan, and tomorrow I expect a vibrant game against a team that play dangerous football.
“The level of competition in our group is high and City’s level is even higher. We’ll miss Koulibaly, who’s an important player for our defence.
“Mario Rui? We’ll have to overcome his absence by avoiding stupid goals. We’ll see if he’s able to recover.
“Hamsik? He’s a real champion. He can have a spell when he’s not at 100 percent, like he is at the moment, but I’ll support him fully.
“Our opponents tomorrow are very formidable, Shakhtar have a good Coach and if they played in Serie A, they wouldn’t be sixth or seventh.
“Perhaps everyone, including ourselves, underestimated them. Their most dangerous player is Taison, but I also like Fred very much. Certainly we can do more than we did in the first game.
“Tavecchio? I don’t like our sporting policies at the moment and I hope that in a few years, I’ll like it more.
“We have to make choices on the pitch. In terms of structures, the situation is dramatic and we don’t have Presidents for our two top Leagues.
“It’s ridiculous to think about reducing the number of foreigners, which isn’t that high.
“It is right, however, to redesign the calendar by avoiding international breaks and arranging international games for the end of the season. Only in that case would a part-time CT make sense.
“I won’t choose between the Champions League and Serie A. We can do well in both competitions.
“It doesn’t just depend on us, but we’ll do everything to win these two games that await us and then we’ll see.”
