Legendary Napoli boss Ottavio Bianchi expects Maurizio Sarri to leave his former club, who lack Juventus’ ‘habit of winning’.

Bianchi led Napoli to their first-ever Scudetto in 1987, as well as a Coppa Italia and the UEFA Cup, and the 74-year-old admits for all the ‘excellent’ work Sarri has done at the helm, a fresh start may be needed for both parties.

“Sarri? I think it’s goodbye for him,” he told Radio Anch’io Sport.

“He and De Laurentiis have worked very well in these three years, even if the Scudetto didn’t arrive.

“I don’t see why their marriage should end badly: they’ll shake hands, be friends like before and go on with their lives.

“Sarri’s work has been excellent. If their relationship really isn’t at a low ebb then it’s right for them to continue, but if it is then the best thing would be for them to go their separate ways.

“Comparisons with Sarri’s Napoli and mine? We won the Scudetto, Coppa Italia and UEFA Cup, but there wasn’t all the popular support that I see today.

“Perhaps it’s because the other team are Juventus, who have the habit of winning. Even without playing brilliant football, it’s made the difference.

“Napoli’s celebrations after beating Juve? You have to stay focused because in football, surprises are only around the corner.

“Naples don’t have that habit of winning, and this makes them particularly fragile.”
