“It was a game that held many difficulties,” he told Mediaset Premium of the 5-1 victory at Frosinone.
“We tried to move the ball around quickly and did well, it was proof of our maturity. We could’ve felt the pressure away from home, but we made a step forward in terms of mentality.”
Sarri achieved this remarkable title on the day of his 57th birthday.
“We are doing well so far, but must continue working without taking anyone for a ride. I still think Juventus are better placed to win the Scudetto, as they are the favourites and I’ve always said that. We are top after 19 rounds, but there are another 19 to go. Nobody ever won a marathon halfway through.
“What satisfied me the most is that this team has worked its socks off, including the most important players, from the first day. With repeated moves in training we gained a certain tactical organisation.”
Gonzalo Higuain bagged another brace and now has 18 goals in the opening 19 Serie A games.
“I always tell the players what I think. Higuain is only at 50 to 60 per cent of his capabilities. He is a world class striker. Manolo Gabbiadini showed what he can do today and it is obvious he’s not for sale.
“The enthusiasm of the people can turn into euphoria and that can lead us into making silly mistakes. Don’t forget last time we went top of the table, we got the following game completely wrong. We need another step forward in terms of mentality.”
