The Tuscans were promoted last summer and secured their Serie A status comfortably, but a 2-1 defeat to Hellas Verona infuriated the Coach.

“We want to give meaning to this final part of our season, improve our status and give fans the best possible performances,” said Sarri in a Press conference.

“During the week I saw a better attitude, but compared to the Verona game we need more grit, determination, humility and spirit of sacrifice. Those are the constants that got us to this stage through the last three seasons.

“I want a real performance, with intensity and a high tempo. This is what I asked of the team and I hope they are capable of it.”

While Empoli have already achieved their aims, Sampdoria risk missing out on Europa League qualification.

“Samp are a strong side, physical and intense, but at the same time with players of great quality. If we play at 100 per cent, then it’ll still be a difficult game for us. If we play the way we did in Verona, getting a result will be impossible.

“I want my team to see football the way I do, always trying to reach new targets. Safety has been assured and we had an extraordinary campaign, but I am convinced that my squad is a machine and I want to see it firing on all cylinders every time.

“This side has the potential to do so much better and we must use these opportunities to grow.”

Simone Verdi is suspended for Empoli, but he is the only real absentee.
