The former Empoli boss then reflected on Sunday’s match, the Vesuviani’s second 5-0 win in the space of four days.

“Lazio found themselves 2-0 down because we started very well, but it must be said that the Biancocelesti played later than us on Thursday and returned late, while we were already in bed by 11.

“That shows the great difficulty of the Europa League, and you just have to look at our upcoming commitments to realise that.

“In the first half we did really well in terms of pressing, Higuain’s goals came about because of that.

“That should be the way we play, it’s draining of course to do it for 90 minutes, but playing it for a time can bring great results.

“From an attacking point of view, I think we only changed the starting positions, the movement was the same.

“Jorginho did very well in the role he had at Verona, and Kalidou [Koulibaly] had 85 perfect minutes and five minutes of mistakes.”
