Napoli Coach Maurizio Sarri was disappointed with both his players and the officials following the 2-2 draw with Sassuolo.

The Partenopei missed the chance to leapfrog Roma into second place in the Serie A table, needing a late Arkadiusz Milik equaliser to claim a point against the mid-table Neroverdi.

"In every way it was an unfortunate match in terms of incidents," Sarri, who saw his side have two penalty appeals waved away, told reporters following the final whistle.

"With this referee we are unlucky after the penalties with Genoa. All 18,000 spectators saw the one in the first half.

"But then, after we squeezed the life out of the opponents, who didn't react, we let them back into the game. This has repeated itself many times."

Sarri added that his side had only themselves to blame for allowing Sassuolo back into the contest.

"We won the ball back 55 times, we only allowed three shots in the match.

"I didn't feel like we could concede goals, it was us who gave the ball to the opposition for the goals. I only remember one save by Reina.

"In the second half of the season we are second in terms of allowing shots.

"The team gives everything, today they did all they could to bring home the three points. These errors are coming at moments in games that should be more favourable."

The Coach added that he would have preferred not to bring on Milik, who has missed most of the season after a knee ligament injury and is still working his way back to fitness, when his team were chasing the game.

"I had hoped to have the match won before putting him on. We had three attackers, plus Hamsik and Zielinski. It was an extreme situation and I went for it in the end."

Despite the setback, Sarri will not give up hope of overhauling Roma to secure the League runners-up spot.

"I don't know, even if there is a one per cent chance we need to go for it. It depends on them [Roma] too, but we need to get as many points as possible.
