Once considered one of the most promising young defenders in Italy, the 27-year-old has been affected by injuries and poor form, making just nine starts for Inter last season.

“We know Santon and his ability very well, but what struck me most is his desire for revival,” Monchi assured Roma’s official website.

“Davide is a versatile player, and the coach will be able to count on a lad who can comfortably play on both flanks.”

Santon also spoke to the website.

“My feelings are all very positive. It’s the start of a new adventure and I cannot wait to get started and share everyone what I can do.

“Monchi immediately made a big impression on me. We spoke on the phone two days before I arrived in Rome. We talked for a while and we found and agreement to bring me here. I am incredibly motivated at the prospect.

“I came here because I want to win something with this club. I hope that will happen this season, or in one of the next ones.”
