Former Inter full-back Davide Santon claims that the Newcastle United fans have yet to see him at his best.

The Under-21 international is the club’s first choice left-back, but admits he still has a lot to learn about Premiership football after arriving from San Siro in 2011.

“Last season, the first few months were difficult for me because Serie A and the Premier League are totally different,” he revealed.

“But now I feel better on the pitch and more confident, so I am enjoying it.

“The fans have not seen the best of me yet though. I can still do more though, I can be much better and I will improve while I am here.”

Santon arrived at Newcastle after failing to deliver on his early promise at Inter under Coach Jose Mourinho. He was also thrust into the full international set-up by Marcello Lippi.

Santon opted for a switch to England despite interest from Roma, a club who are thought to still be keen on him.

“I am really enjoying it here,” he added. “I like Newcastle – I like the city and the people in it. The fans are brilliant, I like my team and I like the Coach. Better than this is impossible!”
