Roma have revived their interest in Newcastle full-back Davide Santon, according to the Corriere dello Sport.

Giallorossi sporting director Walter Sabatini is a big fan of the full-back and is again pondering a bid a year after failing to beat the English club to his services.

Santon, the Italian Under-21 captain, signed a five-year contract with the Premiership outfit last summer after a transfer fee of around €6m was agreed with Inter.

Roma did lack options at right-back this term as the decision to sometimes use midfielder Simone Perrotta in the role suggests.

Sabatini is understood to have already discussed the Santon option with Zdenek Zeman, the tactician who is likely to succeed Luis Enrique in Rome.

It’s unclear whether Newcastle would consider offers for the player who spent part of 2010-11 on loan at Cesena.
