Mattia Destro will become an important player despite his initial struggles following his move to Roma, says one of his former Coaches.

The Italian international caught the eye at Siena last season with 12 goals in 30 games, but he has only scored once in eight games so far for the Giallorossi.

“He is up against some tough competition for a starting shirt in Rome, but he is a serious guy so he doesn’t need any advice,” Giuseppe Sannino, his ex boss at Siena, told Sky Sport Italia.

“It is normal for there to be certain expectations given that he was one of their most important signings, but he just needs to think about improving.

“He will develop into a great champion!”

Destro, 21, has broken into the plans of full Italy boss Cesare Prandelli over the last six months.
