Inter's Walter Samuel says he had no doubts that he would be able to play again this season after serious injury.

The Argentine returned to action last night in the 1-1 draw at Napoli, 190 days after damaging knee ligaments in the tie against Brescia on November 6.

"I was confident I would be back," he told Inter Channel. "After the operation I had spoken with the doctors who are always concerned about avoiding a hasty return to action.

"However, they saw that I could be able to do it and today I am very happy."

The South American came on in the 77th minute for Andrea Ranocchia, the youngster who was acquired in January to cover his absence.

"I'm delighted at having been able to play the last few minutes of the Napoli match," Samuel continued.

"I would like to thank the medical staff for the work they did after my injury, my family who have always stood by me, and all the fans."

Inter boss Leonardo was also happy to see the former Roma and Real Madrid man back on the field of play.

"That was a special moment after such a serious injury," the Brazilian Coach noted.

"Everyone was happy for him, especially his teammates. It was great to see him back on the football field. He was feeling emotional too."
