Seventeen days after they got trapped underground, the group of 11-17 year olds emerged with their Coach, courtesy of a three-day-long operation to free them, which gripped the world’s attention.
“I have only one wish: to see a match with you at the Marassi stadium: I’d be honoured to welcome you to Genoa, football is life and you have won the World Cup of life thanks to God,” tweeted the patron.

Former Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba also notably dedicated France’s 1-0 win against Belgium in the World Cup semi-finals on Friday to the survivors.
