Sampdoria are starting intensive negotiations with Claudio Ranieri to replace Eusebio Di Francesco on the Marassi bench.

According to Sky Sport Italia, President Massimo Ferrero, Vice-President Antonio Romei and director of sport Carlo Osti are all in Rome this afternoon.

They’re visiting Ranieri and initial contact seems to have been positive.

Di Francesco has already left Samp by mutual consent after six defeats in the opening seven Serie A games, but finding a replacement has so far proved difficult.

The Blucerchiati were turned down by Stefano Pioli and Gennaro Gattuso, with Beppe Iachini and Gianni De Biasi the other options.

Ferrero is now determined to get Ranieri, who spent last season at Fulham before acting as caretaker manager for Roma.
