Sampdoria have officially signed Japan international defender Maya Yoshida from Southampton, on loan with option to extend.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the cost of the operation was a mere €200,000.

It is a six-month loan with option to extend for the 2020-21 season.

The 31-year-old centre-back has 100 senior caps for Japan, along with seven games for the Olympic team.

He came to Europe with VVV Venlo in January 2010, then moved to Southampton for €2.8m in the summer of 2012.
