The Argentine had been seen as the subject of continued negotiations between the Sicilians and Samp this transfer window, having struggled for regular action with Catania this term.

SportMediaset are running the line that the 29-year-old, who yesterday publicised his openness to the move up north, has signed off with the Marassi outfit and is set to attend training under Sinisa Mihajlovic today.

It is understood that Lopez has agreed to a two-year contract and arrives on an initial free loan from Catania through to the summer, with a purchase option in place of €1.5m.

Official confirmation has yet to arrive on the deal.
