Sampdoria Coach Vincenzo Montella warns 'a drive for victory is not the same as a frenzy for victory' before the game against Palermo.

The Blucerchiati will be hosting the Sicilians tomorrow at 17:00 CET, and will be looking to pick up three points to move away from the dangerously close relegation zone.

“On Thursday we came very close to scoring, the team gave an important response in terms of keeping up continuity,” said Montella in today's Press conference. “But we need to develop further.

“We kept a much shorter distance between the lines in the last two games, and ideally we want to remain compact like that. We've got to do that regardless of which players are on the pitch.”

Montella then went on to discuss the individual players ahead of tomorrow's game.

“I try not to speak too much about individual players, and I don't want to be repetitive in my judgments. [Luis] Muriel can do more and myself and my staff are here to help him fulfil his potential.

“[Joaquin] Correa had a stop of 40 days and has been training with the group for the last 10. He isn't ready for a full match yet.

“Rodriguez? It's a [tactical] choice, right now we can't afford to have too many strikers, so we placed our chips on Muriel and [Antonio] Cassano. The lad's condition of form was not ideal when I arrived, but now he's in good shape.

“In the Coppa we went with [Federico] Bonazzoli because he has different characteristics. He can cover the wing, while Rodriguez is a classical poacher.

“Tomorrow we're up against a team that found its best format. They are very organised, they can play between the lines and hit back on the counter. We'll have to play calmly and with intelligence.

“We need to bring onto the pitch a drive for victory, but not a frenzy for victory, which can be very dangerous.”
