Now mid-table Sampdoria have made the move official by releasing a brief statement on their website.

Doria have signed the player on a permanent basis, for an undisclosed fee, and he will be unveiled to the media tomorrow at 14.15 local time.

Now mid-table Sampdoria have made the move official by releasing a brief statement on their website.

Doria have signed the player on a permanent basis, for an undisclosed fee, and he will be unveiled to the media tomorrow at 14.15 local time.

Following that presentation, Maccarone will train with his new teammates for the first time at Bogliasco.

Maccarone, who only joined Palermo in the summer from Siena, was made available by the Rosanero after failing to break into the first team plans of Delio Rossi.

Maccarone will wear the No 32 shirt at Doria and becomes the club's second attacking addition in January after the loan capture of Federico Macheda from Manchester United.

Given that Giampaolo Pazzini and Nicola Pozzi are both injured at the moment, the 31-year-old looks likely to make his Serie A debut at the weekend against Napoli.

Samp are also in action in midweek when they face Milan in the Coppa Italia on Wednesday.
