Sampdoria owner Massimo Ferrero is reportedly looking into the possibility of buying embattled Serie B side Palermo.

The Rosanero face bankruptcy after they failed to register in time for Serie B next season and claimed to have been defrauded by fake brokers of a Bulgarian insurance company.

However, Sky Sport Italia claims an unlikely saviour could come in the form of Ferrero.

The broadcaster explains the film producer has been trying to buy another club for some time and that he has already talked to Palermo mayor Leoluca Orlando.

He would also not be forced to sell Samp, providing the two teams do not compete in the same division.

In the case of the Sicilians, they seem increasingly likely to start again in Serie D – the highest level of non-League football in Italy.

On the other hand, it suggests Ferrero is willing to sacrifice Samp, given he has held talks to sell the club in recent months.
