Mayor of Milan Beppe Sala has confirmed that work is ongoing to keep Inter and Milan’s new stadium in Milan amid rumours that the project may be moved to Sesto San Giovanni.

The Rossoneri and the Nerazzurri are pushing to build a new stadium as they look to change homes, leaving the famous Stadio Giuseppe Meazza after a century. The Populous ‘Cathedral’ project was chosen and now the infamous Italian bureaucracy is keeping things moving at a snails pace.

Speaking in La Gazzetta dello Sport, Sala first commented on the rumours that the new stadium could be built in Sesto San Giovanni .

“I was chosen by the Milanese not to put forward alternatives that would impoverish the city, but to ensure that Milan experiences development that respects the environment and social equity.”

He highlighted his intention to keep the new stadium in Milan.

“I’m working so that the stadium of Inter and Milan will remain in Milan and not go to Sesto San Giovanni, where there is already a glorious football team, Pro Sesto.”

The Mayor of Milan touched on the fight to invest in the new stadium.

“Milan is one of the European cities favoured by investors, as the figures show. And this is for two main reasons.

“We always take into account the rights and duties of those who want to invest and we never accept shortcuts or compromises on compliance with the law. This also applies to the new stadium.”

He commented on the current state of the new stadium project now.

“We have already approved three resolutions, two by the Council and one by the City Council, and we have taken all the necessary steps to start the public debate.

“We are waiting for the companies, which have joined the public debate, to present the executive project of the new stadium and the surrounding area.”

Finally, Sala concluded by discussing the work being carried out by the City Council.

“In conclusion, we are working on the present and the future of an increasingly Milanese city, in full respect of the times, the laws and the interests at stake, namely investors and citizens.

“We appreciate criticism, especially if it is documented and constructive. Let’s leave the jokes to other venues.”

  1. It will keep staying in their heads till 2097. More likely to see a pig flying through the sky then see the clown show collaboration actually get something done with their corrupt politicians.
