Luca Toni says keeping Verona in Serie A would mean as much as the Bundesliga title he won with Bayern Munich in 2008.

The 36-year-old made a dream start to his Gialloblu career on Saturday when he netted a brace in the 2-1 win over Milan in Week 1.

“I think survival with Verona this term would be the equivalent of winning the championship with another side, like when I played in Germany with Bayern Munich,” he told the Lega Serie A website.

“Our objective is to ensure Serie A safety as soon as possible, but we know it will be tough as all newly promoted teams struggle.

“The gap between Serie A and Serie B has grown over the last few years and it will therefore be very difficult.

“However, I think the enthusiasm and the validity of the new signings have completed an already competitive side.

“Verona are certainly on the right path, then we will have to see what happens with each game.”
