With football fans debating on Kylian Mbappé and Leo Messi ahead of Sunday’s World Cup Final, Arrigo Sacchi believes the two strikers can be stopped with the same method he used to cope with Diego Armando Maradona.

The PSG superstars will meet in the World Cup Final on Sunday. Mbappé lifted the trophy in Russia four years ago, while Messi lost the Final to Germany in 2014.

They will both play a World Cup Final for the second time in their career.

Sacchi briefly previewed the game during an interview with La Gazzetta Dello Sport explaining the method he used to stop Maradona when his Milan side faced Napoli back in the day.

“There were three ways. The first was to keep the ball, so Diego didn’t have it. The second was to press high, so Diego wouldn’t get the ball. Third, if Diego got the ball, we would face him as a unit. The same applies to Messi and Mbappé, two phenomenons.”

In the first part of his interview, Sacchi said that Messi has become Argentina’s leader and hasn’t seen him blame a teammate yet.

He also praised Milan stars Theo Hernandez and Olivier Giroud who have been helping France reach the second World Cup Final in a row.

  1. Big difference is that France don’t have Baresi, Costacurta and Maldini. Sacchi’s tactics could have been stuck pasta shapes to a piece of paper and he still would have cleaned up with that team. Also, didn’t stop Maradona from winning the league on his own.
