With Inter’s 2-0 win over Napoli last night, Roma have the chance to move within three points of second place.

“Inter didn’t give us a gift, they simply played an important game for themselves and their own season,” Sabatini told Mediaset Premium.

“Do we have regrets? Maybe at a certain stage of the season we could’ve done more, but I don’t look to the past. We have an important objective to chase and there will be time to reflect. Afterwards we’ll analyse the errors and try not to repeat them.”

Sabatini announced he had tended his resignation and will walk away this summer, prompting reports he’ll join Antonio Conte at Chelsea.

“I am 100 per cent active for Roma and will continue to be. We have to focus on Roma achieving their objective. Our destiny depends only on us and anything else is irrelevant.

“I am proudly under contract with Roma, but my situation doesn’t need to be taken into consideration. We are Roma, we want the result and that is all that matters.”

Edin Dzeko was back in the starting XI today against Atalanta and Sabatini was asked about the striker’s future.

“He is a great player and regardless of what has been said by the papers he always put his quality on to the field. He is central to Roma’s project and we go forward with him. He had an injury, but when coming on proved what he can do.”

Naturally, the Francesco Totti issue remains, as there were reports Roma had decided not to offer a new contract.

“The matter seems very clear to me. There will be a final and definitive meeting with the President soon, then we’ll see what happens.

“We are grateful to the lad for what he has done and continues to do.”
