Portugal are considering dismissing Fernando Santos after their elimination from the World Cup and rumours suggest that Jose Mourinho could take on the role whilst also leading Roma.

The 59-year-old Portuguese coach returned to Italy last year, signing a three-year contract with the Giallorossi, and he quickly found success in the Italian capital, guiding the club to their first ever European title in the Europa Conference League.

Despite some stumbles, Roma could challenge for the top four this season under Mourinho and he’s seemingly building a strong project in the Eternal City.

As reported by Corriere dello Sport, Portuguese FA president Fernando Soares Gomes da Silva is considering dismissing head coach Fernando Santos after the team’s disappointing elimination from the World Cup in Qatar.

One option to replace him is Rui Jorge, the former Under-21 coach, but another idea is Mourinho. The set-up would see the former Chelsea and Inter coach work a dual role, leading both Roma and the Portuguese national team.

Whilst an intriguing idea, it’s hard to imagine this actually coming about, with Mourinho seemingly paying full focus to the growing project in Rome.
