Fiorentina have confirmed that Giuseppe Rossi is facing between four and five months on the sidelines following knee surgery.

The 27-year-old suffered his latest injury to the joint during the closing stages of pre-season and flew out to the United States this week for diagnostic keyhole surgery to ascertain if he had damaged the ligament once more.

The Viola have now confirmed that during the procedure the player’s meniscus was stitched, but that the previously damaged cruciate ligament is showing good signs of stability.

However, the club also confirm that as a result of today's procedure, Rossi is facing an estimated four-to-five month lay-off from action.

The player will remain in Colorado for a week, before moving on to New York to begin physiotherapy, before then continuing that later in Florence.
